These rare blocks can be used for absorbing or collecting copious amounts of water, making underwater bases or dropping water levels in underwater structures. They can also serve as decorative pieces for the player's build.

Generally speaking, a sponge turns water blocks into air blocks when it comes into contact with water or is placed next to it.

After absorbing the nearby water, the sponge will become wet and drip small water particles. However, if the sponge is in an item form, it cannot absorb water or become wet. That said, a single sponge can absorb both source and flowing blocks of water up to seven blocks away in any given direction around itself.

While the water closest to the sponge is absorbed first, it cannot absorb more than 135 adjacent blocks of water.
